Fiscal Responsibility

Exercise fiscal responsibility with balanced budgets that prioritize government’s core responsibilities.

Being fiscally responsible has always been a top priority for me. I take Coronado's financial health very seriously. Coronado has enough cash reserves to sustain the city for an entire year without making any money, and we would still have over $10 million in the bank. This surplus is a testament to the careful management of our resources and the dedication of our city officials.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is the fact that Coronado doesn't have any bond debt. Unlike many other cities, we have not burdened ourselves with excessive borrowing or financial obligations that could limit our flexibility. This financial freedom allows us to focus on providing our residents with the best possible services and support without the added pressure of debt repayments.

Why are reserves so important? Reserves are a city's personal savings account. They serve as a buffer, allowing us to navigate through unexpected emergencies or revenue decreases without resorting to drastic measures like laying off staff or cutting essential services. In times of crisis or economic uncertainty, having a robust reserve can mean the difference between maintaining stability and succumbing to financial hardship.
